The Finished Product
| Here is the finished table. 8 ft. long (96") x 4 ft. wide (48"). Rail is 4" wide on the top (bottom lip of rail is 1.5" wide). Racetrack is approx 5" wide (from inside edge of the rail to the outside edge of the felt). The drop-in cupholders are 3 1/2" wide (on the inside) and 3 5/8" wide (on the outside), and 3" deep. The center/felt insert is covered by 1/4" Headliner foam (from JoAnn's), and black Velveteen (also from JoAnn's). The logo was Airbrushed by a local airbrush T-shirt shop for $35. The table legs were originally 29" (but I cut 2" off because the table was too tall). The plywood is 3/4" Arauco from Home Depot ($29/sheet). I used 3 sheets of plywood for this table (and I now have a big oval left over for my next project). The table will seat 10 players. | |
| Close up of racetrack and rail. Here you can better see the gloss/shine from the poly. It looks wet. In addition to looking great, the poly will provide an excellent protectant for the severe abuse that the wood is going to take (all those chips being stacked, but more so in front of me!!). In all I applied 5 coats of Poly. I could've gone 1 or 2 more, but I decided 5 was enough (I hope). | |
| Here you can see that the felt insert is actually "risen" a little above the racetrack. This is due to the 1/4" headliner foam, and the Velveteen. | |
| Close up of racetrack and rail. Here you can better see the
gloss/shine from the poly. It looks wet, and is relflecting the light from
the lamp very well. In addition to looking good, the poly will provide an
excellent protectant for the certain abuse that the wood is going to take.
