Cutting Cupholders from Baseboard

Once the racetrack is complete, lay it back down on the baseboard. It's important that your center/felt insert is properly mounted & bolted onto the baseboard. This will ensure that your racetrack sits properly on the baseboard and is positioned correctly.
Take a pencil and quickly trace the circles on the baseboard. Your racetrack is now finished, and ready for sanding/stain/poly.
I was tired of sawing so I decided to go ahead an apply the first coat of poly to the racetrack so it could be drying while I cut the holes in the baseboard. To prepare the racetrack for the poly, I sanded it gently all over (didn't need much) with a random orbit sander. You can see the grit I used. Just give it a once over to smooth everything out and get the wood ready for the poly. Don't forget to wipe all the dust off of the racetrack with a rag and ALSO a Tack Cloth. The surface MUST be free of all debris, dust, etc. before you apply the poly.
Take the basebaord outside (you'll need to remove the felt insert first), and drill your "starter" holes. Remember to cut outside the pencil marks (a little farther outside this time; maybe 1/4"). It doesn't matter how big your hole is as long as it's at least as big as the one on the racetrack. No one will see these holes, but your cupholders have to fit in them. Test your cuts out each time by inserting a holder. If they fit, you're doing a good job!
Bring the baseboard back inside and re-mount the center/felt insert (remember how we used the T-Nuts and bolts earlier?). This piece will just sit and wait until the racetrack is finished. You're almost home!
