Padding the Center
| Once I hammered in all my T-Nuts into the top of the center/felt insert, I placed a small piece of Duct Tape over the hole. This is just to help make sure there is no sag in the felt top once it's covered. | |
| Here is a top view of the center/felt insert with the small
pieces of Duct Tape over the T-Nuts. Note that the T-Nuts have already
been hammered into the wood (where they'll stay forever). Also pictured, I'm applying the 1/4" headliner foam I purchased from JoAnn's. I used 3M spray adhesive on the wood. Let it sit for a minute or so to get really "tacky", then roll on the headliner foam nice and tight. Use your hands to make sure it's perfectly smooth. After letting it dry awhile, I went around the outside edges and gently tried lifting up the foam. If I was able to lift it up, I reached in and sprayed some more 3M adhesive. Let it dry for 30 minutes or so. |

| Once it was dry, I used a razor to cut off the edges of the foam. Note, that I am not wrapping the foam around the bottom of the board (simply a choice). I was worried that the gap between my center/felt insert and racetrack was too narrow, and that it might not fit if I wrapped the headliner around it. I was also worried about the height of the center/felt insert, and didn't want it resting on foam on the bottom. | |
